The new Hawai'i Gun Laws can be complicated to understand. Hawai'i Firearm Academy makes it easy to comply with gun laws to acquire or carry a concealed gun.
Experienced Professionals
The Honolulu Police Department has approved Ashli Kessler to teach the Basic Pistol Safety Course and the Concealed Carry Permit Course.
Ashli is a Lifetime National Rifle Association member and holds the following credentials.
1. Basic Pistol Instructor
2. Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) Instructor
3. Chief Range Safety Officer Instructor.
Ashliʻs former career was as an International Ship Captain. She is an expert in Maritime Security, training various Security Officers aboard vessels and port facilities. Ashli has worked with many ships to set up a citadel (safe house) to protect the crews in high-risk waters.

About Firearms and Training
Firearms are neither safe nor unsafe. When a gun owner becomes educated in safe firearm practices, understands the Hawai'i Gun Laws, and regularly trains to maintain proficiency, then firearms become safer.

Our Honolulu Police Department-approved Handgun Safety Course is for newer and more experienced shooters who get their Hawai’I Permit to Acquire Permit to purchase a firearm.
We cover everything you need to know to feel confident and safe using or carrying a handgun.
The Basic Handgun Safety Course introduces students to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for safely owning and using a handgun. We love new shooters. Building confident handgun owners is what we do.

WHAT TO BRING
We provide classroom instruction, range fees, targets, ammunition, eye and hearing protection, and firearms for the Hawai’i Basic Safety Handgun Course.
You need a notebook and a pen or pencil to take notes. You may wish to bring your snacks and drinks.
NEW SHOOTERS ARE WELCOME
The first step in getting your Hawai’i license to carry is to take this class. The required material taught in class is very basic and easy to understand. The required shooting portion of the class is also very basic and focuses primarily on safe gun handling. Newer shooters often pass with ease. We will cover the application process in the class, so there is nothing you need to do before taking the class.
The Hawai’i license to carry is a 4-year license.
Honolulu's Approved Concealed Carry Course
You need this class to obtain your concealed carry handgun license from the Hawai’i Police Department Firearm Division in Honolulu. It will allow you to carry a handgun open or concealed. The State of Hawai’i requires a minimum 6-hour class (not including range time) to obtain your Hawiilicense to carry. The average total class time, including classroom and range, is 2 hours. Hawai’i Firearm Academy is certified by the State of Hawaii to teach this required course.

The Hawaii license to carry, also known as the Hawai’i Concealed Carry License, is a 4-year license. Once you take the initial Hawai’i License to Carry class, you must complete the required paperwork to receive your license.

What To Bring To The Hawai’i Class
- Handgun (any caliber) – YOU MUST QUALIFIED WITH THE GUN YOU INTEND
- TO CARRY. THE GUN MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE FIREARM DIVISION OF THE
- HONOLULU POLICE DEPARTMENT. YOU MUST BRING PROOF OF THE HANDGUN
- REGISTRATION.
- Holster designed for your gun.
- Garment to cover holster
- Hearing protection (earplugs or muffs are fine)
- Eye protection (sunglasses or any glasses will work)
- Ball cap or any hat with a bill (recommended)
- No open-toed shoes
- No low-cut shirts
